Far infrared therapy is a form of light therapy characterized by low energy, non-invasiveness, few contraindications, and high safety. It has been used in a wide range of disciplines, from internal medicine to surgery, and has become a valuable adjunct tool in many medical settings.

Far infrared therapy first began to be explored and researched academically in the 1970s. At that time, as the field of physics matured its understanding of infrared spectroscopy and the distinctions between infrared, near-infrared, and far-infrared became increasingly clear, biomedical engineering researchers expanded their research into invisible light therapy, with far infrared therapy becoming a major research area.

In the early 21st century, driven by dedicated individuals, several medical research teams in Taiwan began to engage in basic and clinical research on far infrared therapy. With a pragmatic approach, they demonstrated the therapeutic benefits of this therapy and received recognition from internationally recognized journals. These pioneering efforts have transformed far infrared therapy from a "folk remedy" into a scientifically evidence-based, prescription-based treatment.

Today, Taiwan has become a major center for far infrared therapy research and has accumulated extensive clinical experience. However, far-infrared medical research still holds many unresolved mysteries. Previously, Taiwan lacked a collaborative effort, drawing on the strengths of others to allow far-infrared therapy research to take root and flourish in Taiwan. Therefore, in 2021, dedicated individuals organized the Far Infrared Therapy Research Association, bringing together specialists, clinical professionals, and experts from various fields. Adhering to the rigorous spirit of evidence-based medicine, the Association will collaborate with medical professionals to collect research data, organize exchange activities, and promote far-infrared therapy, aiming to maximize its effectiveness in both home health care and clinical applications.
